Marks & Spencer Deploys Bit9 Application Whitelisting

07.16.2008 – London, UK and Cambridge, Mass., USA – Bit9, Inc., the pioneer and leader in Enterprise Application Whitelisting, announced today that Marks & Spencer (M&S), one of the largest retailers in the United Kingdom, has licensed the Bit9 Parity™ solution to proactively protect its customers and retail operations from unauthorised software and malware.

Bit9 Parity has been selected for M&S’ 16,000+ Point of Sale (POS) systems to enforce Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard (DSS).

PCI DSS has directed retailers to provide the highest level of security and control on their Point of Sale systems,” said Tom Murphy, CMO, Bit9. “We are very pleased to help M&S take this proactive approach to preventing unauthorised software and portable storage devices on their POS systems.”

In addition, Bit9 is announcing the opening of its first office in London, which is located at 25 Canada Square, Canary Wharf, Docklands, London. The company’s European headquarters are in the Netherlands at Trondheim 6, 2993 LE Barendrecht, The Netherlands.

The Bit9 Parity whitelisting solution provides enterprises with the visibility and control needed to automatically whitelist applications and devices. All other applications, including malware and unauthorised software will not execute on endpoints, including Point of Sale (POS) systems. Using this approach, Bit9 helps reduce any risk associated with unauthorised software, including the next generation of malicious attacks.
