Kaltura, the leading open source video platform (www.kaltura.com), announced today that it has been selected to power video for two of Holland’s leading educational institutions: Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen. Both universities are part of the SURFmarket organization for higher education in Holland. SURFmarket and Kaltura are currently in the process of forming a strategic partnership for all SURFmarket members. An agreement is intended to be made in 2012, so together SURFmarket and Kaltura can make these offerings available for the Dutch educational market.
Both universities will leverage video for their teaching and learning programs, deploying Kaltura’s Video Building Block for Blackboard, as well as the Kaltura MediaSpace application (private campus “YouTube”) to enable students and faculty to interact using video and fully manage their video content. In addition, Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen will be leveraging Kaltura for PR and Marketing by using Kaltura’s live streaming and distribution module to stream their events on campus and easily distribute content to YouTube and across the web.
“We are honored to be working with two of the leading educational institutions in The Netherlands,” said Ron Yekutiel, Kaltura Chairman and CEO. “Our expansion into the European market earlier this year had been met with great demand. It’s a great privilege to be in a position to set and share best practices for teaching and learning across the Atlantic.”
“We have chosen Kaltura mainly because of its excellent integration facilities with Blackboard, our current LMS, and the fact that so many big, diverse universities in the US are already using Kaltura,” said Rob van Leeuwen, educational technologist with Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
