Unicon, Inc., a leading IT consulting services provider, specializing in open source for the education market, today announced its partnership with Kaltura, Inc., developer of the first open source online video platform. Unicon’s partnership with Kaltura will enable Unicon to deliver the innovative Kaltura Open Source Online Video Platform and integration services to enhance learning and research in higher education institutions. Kaltura’s open source platform powers the video capabilities of over 52,000 video publishers worldwide, including major universities. Kaltura’s solutions provide video and rich-media capabilities to online classes, lecture material, university web sites, marketing campaigns, and internal and external institution employee training programs.
Kaltura’s open source framework is built to support third party technologies and services, allowing higher education institutions to customize their solution to meet their individual institution’s needs. Kaltura’s Solutions Partner Program allows for providers to extend the Kaltura platform with added-value solutions.
“The strong pull for open-source online video tools in the education market is driven by the growing demand for e-learning, and by the industry’s affinity for open-standards and low-cost solutions,” Ron Yekutiel, Kaltura Chairman & CEO, says. “As ‘the open source service company for education’, Unicon is an ideal partner to address this demand. We are excited about the collaboration and are looking forward to enhancing online education in universities all across the nation”.
The Kaltura Online Video Platform allows colleges and universities the ability to explore a new, interactive educational channel with the familiar flexibility and cost-effectiveness of open source software. Kaltura’s platform is fully integrated with popular Learning Management Systems, and Unicon is currently at work on integrating the platform with Sakai. The platform is available in an affordable Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution, or through a self-hosted, on-premise installation. Unicon is a licensed reseller of the Kaltura solution, and will provide services to integrate Kaltura into the institutional architecture.
“The Kaltura Video Platform provides institutions with a new, cost-efficient dimension in teaching and learning,” John C. Blakley, CEO of Unicon, Inc., says. “Unicon specializes in implementing and integrating enterprise platforms and is proud to offer Kaltura’s video solution to higher education.”
