Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), the largest campus-based undergraduate university in the UK, announced today that is has selected Kaltura, the leading open source video platform (www.kaltura.com), to power video across its campus and beyond.
With usage of its Moodle™ Learning Management System peaking at more than 450,000 hits a day, MMU is now integrating Kaltura’s full-featured video extension for Moodle, empowering the ‘iPhone-YouTube generation’ students and faculty to harness the power of video within their existing environment and workflows.
MMU is also launching its own video portal – MMUTube – based on Kaltura’s MediaSpace video portal application. MMUTube includes various channels of video content, including both public video channels as well as private video channels for MMU-allowed users only.
“When evaluating the usage of our Moodle Virtual Learning Environment - the results are staggering - more than 450,000 hits per day, and 30,000 individual users. The growing use of online tools is coupled with a surge in demand for rich-media content and social video functionalities,” said Professor Mark Stubbs, Head of Learning and Research Technologies at Manchester Metropolitan University. “When looking for our video partner, the choice was clear. Kaltura has everything we need – a seamless Moodle integration, a private video portal that give us full control, and a local UK team that can support us now and in the future.”
“MMU is a true leader in the market – they have taken great measures to provide students and faculty with cutting-edge technologies and tools for an optimal learning environment. We are proud to be their video partner of choice,” said Ron Yekutiel, Kaltura Chairman and CEO.
