Pwnie Express, a security software startup that launched in Vermont, announced Tuesday the opening of its Boston headquarters in the Innovation District.

The office opened with newly appointed CEO Paul Paget and two employees, and company officials say another 12 employees will be hired by the end of 2014.

Paget said the Boston office will help expand the company's employee base to meet growing customer demand.

"I look forward to having access to some of the best engineering, sales and marketing talent, bar none," he said in a statement.

The company's research and development and manufacturing operations will remain in Vermont.

More than 1,000 businesses in retail, finance, health and manufacturing sectors use Pwnie Express, the company reported.

Pwnie Express in July announced it had raised a $5.1 million Series A round led by Boston's .406 Ventures.
