WALTHAM, Mass.—July 15, 2014—Bit9® + Carbon Black, the leader in endpoint threat prevention, detection and response, today announced the appointment of Eric Pyenson to the new position of vice president & general counsel.
Pyenson, who has more than 25 years of legal, business development and technology experience, joins Bit9 + Carbon Black from A123 Systems, which he helped take public in 2009.
“Eric’s experience in helping startup companies achieve strong results—including successful IPOs—will be extremely valuable for Bit9 + Carbon Black,” said Patrick Morley, the company’s chief executive officer. “He will be a key player on our team as we continue to drive revenue growth, add new strategic partners, expand internationally and enhance our leadership position in endpoint security.”
Prior to A123 Systems, Pyenson established the in-house legal functions at several Boston-area software startups, including Authoria, Excara and Open Market, where he helped lead that company’s successful IPO in 1996. Pyenson also has served on the legal staff of Bull HN Information Systems, Inc., and was in private practice at the Boston law firms Palmer & Dodge and Gesmer Updegrove.
“This is an exciting time to join Bit9 + Carbon Black,” said Pyenson. “The endpoint security market is hot and we are one of the hottest companies in it. I look forward to working with this great team and leveraging my experience with companies on similar growth trajectories to help Bit9 meet—and exceed—its goals.”
Before launching his legal and business career, Pyenson worked in counterterrorism for the CIA in Washington, D.C., and overseas. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Williams College, a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Sussex, England, and his J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law, during which time he also served as a clerk to Judge William G. Young of the United States District Court in Boston.
