BOSTON, MA - (November 5, 2014) - CloudHealth® Technologies, the pioneer in IT service management for the cloud, today announced Automated Tasks as the latest enhancement to the CloudHealth platform. The announcement marks a strategic corporate initiative in the emerging field of Cloud Autonomics. The initial release is the first in a series of policy-driven, automated tasks that enable organizations to define, manage and implement changes programmatically, in a way that optimizes cost, availability and performance.
"As cloud providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS) continue to develop and release services that enable customers to run all applications and workloads in the cloud, the adoption of cloud services at scale is dramatically increasing," said Joe Kinsella, CloudHealth’s Founder and CTO. “The sheer number of service and resource options coupled with the high velocity rate of change can create management challenges for customers. The gap between what customers can realistically react to on a day–to-day basis continues to widen and is becoming hard to manage. Cloud Autonomics addresses this issue and CloudHealth is helping companies put it into practice through our Automated Tasks.”
With CloudHealth’s new functionality, enterprises can automate the purchase of reserved compute capacity, the optimization of existing reservation purchases, and the termination of unused cloud resources. AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) provides an industry-leading, enterprise security solution for the management of cloud resources. CloudHealth has leveraged the power of IAM to provide a secure solution for automating business tasks through session-based authorization that allows an organization to grant resource-level privileges to CloudHealth’s Automated Tasks. The approach enables organizations to leverage the power of business automation without giving up control over the security of their resources.
Customers can configure tasks for specific delegated actions that include:
Modifying Reserved Instances
Purchasing Reserved Instances
Deleting Instances
Deleting Snapshots
"The cloud is more than just virtual machines and on-demand pricing. There are a vast range of cloud services out there, each with its own pricing schemes, performance metrics and features,” said Owen Rogers, Senior Analyst, Digital Economics at 451 Research. “With such complexity, ascertaining the best combination of services and models to achieve performance and cost efficiencies is challenging. Tools that automate this decision-making process can help enterprises achieve best-value with less administrative overhead."
