WALTHAM, Mass.—December 11, 2014—Bit9® + Carbon Black®, the leader in endpoint threat prevention, detection and response, has been named a “2014 Industry Innovator” by SC Magazine.
The company’s Carbon Black product, which delivers real-time visibility, monitoring, detection and response for endpoints and servers, was named an “Industry Innovator” in the “Perimeter Defense” category.
According to SC Magazine: “There are currently several products for endpoint threat monitoring of an enterprise system. Of the many possibilities, Carbon Black is the most robust solution for performing incident response, endpoint monitoring and threat analysis. This Innovator has allowed us to erase almost completely the need for perimeter management when nearly no perimeter exists.”
The article went on to say that Carbon Black is “fast” with an “easy-to-use interface and a robust active monitoring platform.”
The review of Carbon Black, which can be read here, addresses a hot issue in information security: proactive data collection and analysis.
The report notes: “Usually, after an attack has happened it is too late. You pull up logs and look at packet captures and hope to find evidence of an attack of which you don’t fully know the details. Carbon Black innovates in this field by always collecting data passively so that after an attack has been detected there is plenty of data to analyze the attack further. The few little facts that may be known about the attack can be searched and the originating processes can be discovered with all of the relating information. The entire startup process is documented and can be traced back to an originating service for a restarting malware process so that it can be tracked down and stopped when there is no knowledge about its persistence methods.”
Ben Johnson, Bit9 + Carbon Black’s chief security strategist, said it’s significant that Carbon Black was honored in the Perimeter Defense category: “Not too long ago, securing the enterprise perimeter meant deploying firewalls and other solutions at the point where the public network connected to an organization’s internal computing infrastructure. Those days are long gone. The network is not the target. The new perimeter is wherever people and their devices are. Essentially, the endpoint is the perimeter.
“It’s forward-thinking of SC Magazine to address the deteriorating perimeter,” said Johnson. “They are spot on in how they position Carbon Black as defending the new front-line of attacks — the endpoint. We are honored to be included as one of 2014’s Industry Innovators.”
The innovators are published in the December 2014 issue of SC Magazine.
