Colorado Springs, Colorado — Elk Creek Computers, Inc., a trusted provider of IT products and services to dental clients, will now begin offering AuthAir Dental as a practical, effective response to increased regulatory pressure that dental practices comply with the HIPAA Security Rule to keep sensitive patient data away from prying eyes.
“Partnering with AuthAir gives Elk Creek an actionable solution for our customers, all of whom want to do the right thing in protecting their patients’ personal information,” says Thomas Clark, CEO/CTO of Elk Creek Computers, Inc. “Despite best intentions, many dental practices routinely fall short on execution and implementation because of the hassle of reworking their long established processes and procedures. That’s what we liked best about AuthAir Dental: the seamless way it can be integrated without requiring much in the way of retraining or revamping current workflow.“
Yaron Baitch, CEO of AuthAir, agrees “Really understanding how practices operate was essential in the design of AuthAir Dental. We’ve known from the outset that we would need to support a wide variety of existing equipment and office configurations, and most importantly, widely varied rhythms of staff movement. So we made it our mission to create a solution that would protect a practice without having to change its staff behavior.”
Baitch goes on to explain how AuthAir accomplishes this through a combination of workstation software and encrypted Bluetooth dongles that are installed on practice computers, and tokens that are worn by the staff. “The tokens are about the size of a car alarm key fob. Since the tokens are uniquely assigned to each doctor, assistant, hygienist or office manager – AuthAir securely communicates which staff member is approaching the computer, logging them in automatically as they cross over the desired, customizable, pre-set proximity. Likewise, when staff exit the operatory, the software senses the token’s removal from its proximity window, and triggers a lock on the workstation, preventing patients from having any access to the system. As staff return to the patient’s side, AuthAir unlocks the workstation right where they left off. All of this creates a security rule compliant audit trail.”
Thomas Clark states, “Ease of integration and robust security were two main reasons Elk Creek selected the AuthAir solution, but we were also keen to choose something our clients could afford. AuthAir costs approximately $3,000 to get a 7-person office up and running, and about $1,500 in years two and beyond. Elk Creek has plans to breaks this down to a monthly fee to deliver affordable compliance with a tool that allows a practice to operate practically ‘business-as-usual’.”
