CloudHealth Technologies Helps Manage Cloud Environments with Enhanced Security, Automation and Integration Capabilities

BOSTON – August 11, 2016 – CloudHealth Technologies, the leader in cloud service management, today announced enhanced capabilities that enable customers to automate, secure and integrate their cloud environments. Together, these enhancements will enable organizations to more efficiently manage their cloud infrastructures.

Security Policies for AWS

The fast-paced nature of the cloud means that effective governance is key, as is ensuring compliance with industry best practices. According to Gartner, “Through 2020, 80 percent of cloud breaches will be due to customer misconfiguration, mismanaged credentials or insider theft, not cloud provider vulnerabilities1.” CloudHealth will extend the security best practices in AWS Trusted Advisor by proactively identifying misconfigurations and inappropriately used controls across AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), Security Groups, Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs), and more. With these new capabilities, CloudHealth customers can:

  • Implement configurable policy-driven alerts that are ranked according to severity.
  • Flag policies for inclusion in the Policy Violation Report, which goes beyond simple alerting to provide deeper insight into the state of the violation, including affected resources and policy block documentation.
  • Define best practices across the organization, manage policy violations, automatically alert on critical issues, deliver violation reports via email, and suppress exempted resources.
  • Leverage Perspectives, which allow users to provision fine-grained permissions that apply to specific business entities for service-level management. This means that health checks can be customized for a particular business group.

Automated Actions Eliminate Drudgery

Optimizing infrastructure requires constant vigilance. With automated actions, CloudHealth removes the manual drudgery from managing daily tasks. Now, within the CloudHealth platform, customers can rely on automation for the following:

  • Reserved Instance (RI) modifications. Customers can leverage RIs to save up to 60 percent on compute costs, now without the administrative overhead.
  • Lights on/lights off for non-production infrastructure that is only needed during times of peak access or demand.
  • Managing snapshots, which can generate inconsumable amounts of data and thousands of rows in a spreadsheet.

These tasks can run with or without approval chains, and can combine to form compound tasks.

Partnerships Drive AWS EC2 Efficiency

CloudHealth Technologies has found that approximately 40 percent of the average public cloud customer’s cloud infrastructure runs underutilized. CloudHealth gives customers the ability to rightsize EC2 instances by identifying underutilization of instances and volumes and recommending optimization changes. In many cases, users can execute directly from the CloudHealth Console.

Smart optimization decisions hinge on having quality data regarding server usage and performance. By working with key vendors in the cloud ecosystem -- including the most recent integration, with software analytics leader New Relic -- CloudHealth consolidates and organizes data to help make informed business decisions around rightsizing, security and cost management.
