BOSTON, Mass. – April 21, 2009 – Optaros Inc., providers of custom online applications for clients through the Assembled Web, announces the creation of the Patriots Calendar App, an online event viewer developed for the three-time Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots.
Available for download on the Patriots website and Facebook, fans can embed the Patriots Calendar App into blogs, web sites and Facebook pages, or sync it with Microsoft Outlook and other calendars.
Since its soft launch in December, the Patriots Calendar App has actively engaged more than 12,000 fans, either through downloads or synching with calendars. Facebook is currently driving approximately 20 percent of traffic to the Calendar App page at http://www.patriots.com/news/index.cfm?ac=calendar.
Seeking new ways to create, manage and track experiences with the Patriots brand, the team hired Optaros to create the Patriots Calendar App using OView, a new application syndication service. The Patriots chose the OView Event Viewer to aggregate rich media content from numerous sources across the internet, thus increasing fan engagement and expanding online sponsorships.
“We chose OView because it is the only application syndication service that balances our desire to engage fans across the Web with the need to protect our brand,” said Fred Kirsch, director of interactive media at Patriots.com.
The Patriots Calendar App gives fans access to the team, including: draft announcements, press conference videos, radio interviews, schedules, team history and special events. Using OView, the Patriots can manage all content, aggregate numerous inbound RSS feeds, insert ads, make global updates, block undesirable sites and track user engagement analytics across domains.
“Starting with the launch of their website in 1995 – the first in professional sports – the Patriots have been true web innovators,” stated Bob Gett, CEO at Optaros. “They are once again leading the way as the first sports team to adopt application syndication through OView, truly embracing this new era of online marketing.”

About New England Patriots
The New England Patriots are one of the premier teams in the National Football League. The Patriots are headquartered and play their home games at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., located between Boston and Providence.
The Patriots were named the eighth and final charter franchise of the American Football League (AFL) on Nov. 16, 1959 and will be celebrating their 50th anniversary season this year. In 1994, Robert Kraft purchased the franchise and vowed to bring New England its first NFL championship. The Patriots delivered on that promise at the end of the 2001 season and became just the second team in NFL history to win three Super Bowls in a four-year span after winning back-to-back titles in 2003 and 2004. Since 1994, the Patriots have won more games (173) and more often (.655 winning percentage) than any other NFL team. For more information, please visit www.patriots.com.
