Waltham, MA – July 10, 2018 – GreatHorn, the leading cloud-native email security provider, today announced that it has appointed Vijay Malik as its Vice President of Engineering. In this role, Malik will be responsible for the company’s engineering organization and the development of its email security platform, particularly as the team strengthens its anomaly-based threat detection capabilities for phishing and social engineering attacks.
The FBI’s 2017 Internet Crime Report found business email compromise incidents were not only on the rise, but, in fact, had a disproportionately large financial impact. Business email compromise and phishing represented a staggering 48 percent of all Internet crime-driven financial loss – more than twice the total financial loss from identity theft, data breaches, extortion, denial of service, malware, and investment fraud combined. GreatHorn reduces businesses’ email security risk through a proprietary combination of machine learning and automated response capabilities that provide comprehensive post-delivery protection against targeted email attacks.
“GreatHorn has experienced tremendous growth year-over-year and, as we continue to support new clients and markets, we need a seasoned engineering leader that has successfully delivered high-quality, rapidly evolving products in a fast-moving environment,” GreatHorn CEO Kevin O’Brien said. “Vijay not only brings a tremendous amount of experience building out highly efficient and adaptive teams, but he also has the business acumen to work with the rest of the leadership team to align product development with market demand.”
Malik brings more than 25 years’ experience leading and scaling high-performance product and SaaS development organizations, from start-ups to large enterprises. He most recently served as Senior Vice President of Engineering at IDEMIA, where he was responsible for managing global software engineering, architecture, and quality assurance for the digital security company’s finance, retail, and federal customers. His strategic and technical leadership was also key in developing the company’s frictionless ID management, go-to-market plan, pricing, and driving revenue from new markets. Previously, Malik served in senior executive roles at Empirix, Arbor Networks, and Mangrove Systems.
“In other areas of security, we’ve seen the industry dramatically adapt to rapidly changing architectures – from distributed cloud environments to container-based infrastructures,” said Malik. “But the email security market has remained stubbornly resistant to change. I’m excited to join a company that is revolutionizing the way we look at email security – transitioning away from the old static and binary protection model and towards a continuous improvement model based on organization-specific patterns of communication. I’m looking forward to helping the company develop effective solutions to an ever-evolving challenge.”
