(WELLESLEY, MA) Harvard Pilgrim Health Care is the first health plan in the Northeast to provide its members with access to AbleTo, a 24/7 structured therapy program that accelerates medical recovery and improves self-care among members who are concurrently dealing with chronic or complex clinical needs and suffering from depression, stress, or anxiety. Members who have experienced traumatic life events or substance abuse can also benefit.
AbleTo is a tech-enabled program that treats mental health issues that, if left untreated, can interfere with a member’s medical recovery. Licensed therapists and behavioral coaches use a simple and fully HIPAA-compliant telephone and video platform to meet patients where they are and provide them eight weeks of personalized, cognitive behavioral therapy and coaching. The program is fully available to Harvard Pilgrim’s fully-insured members.
AbleTo’s sophisticated analytics, coupled with multi-channel outreach, identify and engage members with unmet, often undiagnosed, behavioral health needs. Members can also self-refer to the program, or be referred by members of their care team. By offering AbleTo, Harvard Pilgrim hopes to improve both behavioral health and medical outcomes for members with conditions like chronic pain, cancer, heart failure, diabetes, substance misuse, bereavement, post-partum depression and traumatic life events.
“Chronic health conditions or exposure to traumatic conditions can lead to depression, anxiety and stress,” said Harvard Pilgrim Chief Medical Officer Michael Sherman, MD. “These conditions often hinder an individual’s medical recovery and make them less able to cope with daily living. By helping our members treat their behavioral health issues, we can support their medical health and their enjoyment of life.”
“Harvard Pilgrim is one of the nation’s most innovative and progressive regional health plans, and we are delighted to be able to offer the AbleTo solution to its members,” said Trip Hofer, CEO of AbleTo. “The connection between our mental and physical health is now well established. AbleTo exists to help our clients treat the whole person.”
AbleTo has been available to Harvard Pilgrim’s fully-insured members since July 2.
