Waltham, MA – September 26, 2018 – GreatHorn, the leading cloud-native email security provider, GreatHorn, the leading cloud-native email security provider, today announced that it has made three key executive appointments to its leadership team: Kurt Johnson has been named Vice President of Business Development; Dave Magnusson will serve as the company’s Vice President of Sales, and Lorita Ba as GreatHorn’s Vice President of Marketing. By applying their extensive enterprise software experience, the executives will extend GreatHorn’s track record of extraordinary sales growth by capitalizing on rising market demand for a comprehensive, cloud-native email security platform.
In its four decades of existence, email has become the single largest platform for cybercrime. In June, the FBI reported that business email compromise alone has driven more than $12.5 billion in global losses. Legacy email security solutions and out-of-the-box capabilities from cloud email providers have struggled to keep pace with the rising sophistication – and success – of such social engineering techniques (including business email compromise, credential theft, and other targeted spear phishing campaigns), opening up a market opportunity for a new approach.
For enterprises using cloud email platforms like Office 365 and G Suite, GreatHorn provides complete protection against both traditional and advanced threats by combining its advanced threat detection capabilities with a continuous approach to email security that automates not only detection, but also remediation and post-delivery incident response.
“We’ve spent the past three years developing an innovative email security platform that we’ve proven with both mid-market and enterprise customers,” said GreatHorn CEO Kevin O’Brien. “We have a huge market opportunity in front of us, and the experience that Kurt, Dave, and Lorita bring will ensure that we build upon our early success to become not just the innovator we already are, but an acknowledged market leader in email security.”
As Vice President of Business Development, Johnson will identify, cultivate, and expand GreatHorn’s strategic alliances, partnerships, and channel relationships. In his more than 30 years of business development and marketing experience, Johnson has developed strong connections with security leaders in industry and a deep understanding of how to develop and maintain mutually beneficial partnerships. In addition to a 17-year tenure as an early executive at security pioneer Courion (now SecureAuth + Core Security), Johnson has also served as Senior Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Development at AnchorOps (acquired by FastPay), and as an analyst at both META Group and IDC.
As Vice President of Sales, Magnusson will deepen GreatHorn’s penetration into the enterprise market, while working with Johnson to expand GreatHorn’s reseller and managed service provider (MSP) relationships to drive expansion in the mid-market. Magnusson brings 17 years of experience in promoting sales growth by building relationships, understanding customer requirements and gaps, and articulating business benefits of new technology. Most recently, Magnusson was Vice President of Sales at DefendX Software (previously NTP Software) and has held senior sales leadership positions at Bloxx and Porttracker.
As Vice President of Marketing, Ba drives all aspects of corporate and product marketing, working closely with Magnusson and Johnson to define and execute the next phase of GreatHorn’s go-to-market approach. With 20 years of enterprise software marketing experience, Ba brings a track record of building sustained awareness for company innovation and product value and executing integrated marketing programs to drive pipeline growth and market credibility. Ba most recently served as interim head of marketing at NuoDB and has also held senior marketing roles at TwinStrata (acquired by EMC) and Kalido (now Magnitude Software).
