Kaltura, the leading video technology provider, announced today that its customer Vodafone and its new multi-national cloud-based television distribution platform, powered by Kaltura, has been shortlisted for the 2018 IBC Innovation Awards.
Vodafone Group has recently introduced Vodafone TV, a ground-breaking, operator-grade multi-screen Cloud TV service that blends content from multiple sources – including live TV, catch-up TV and VOD, as well as apps like Netflix, HBO Go, and Now TV. Vodafone TV customers can select the content they are interested in and from what source they want to watch it e.g. linear TV, VOD, or from an app like Netflix inside Vodafone own designed user interface. Vodafone is rolling out its new service from Europe to New Zealand.
“It is a great honor for our flagship customer Vodafone to be shortlisted for the prestigious IBC Innovation Awards,” said Dr. Shay David, Kaltura Co-founder, President and GM of Kaltura’s Media and Telecom business unit. “Kaltura is leading the charge with our Cloud TV service, which combines the best of OTT and pay-TV capabilities to deliver next generation premium TV services. Vodafone is the perfect example of how operators and media companies need to evolve to succeed in today’s Cloud TV era.”
Cloud TV, a new industry category, embraces the cost structure, agility and personalization of OTT combined with the scalability, reliability, and security of carrier grade pay-TV, bringing together the best of both worlds. The Kaltura TV Platform is a full Cloud TV solution with the latest innovations in OTT while maintaining the powerful performance and unwavering reliability of pay-TV.
Michael Lumley, chair of the panel of international editors and consultants which decides the IBC Innovation Awards said: “The huge number of entries for this year’s IBC Innovation Awards made it very challenging for the judges to cut down to just a handful of finalists. To get onto this shortlist, you have to demonstrate an innovative but practical and proven solution to a real challenge. This really is the best of the best.”
