NEW YORK, March 6, 2019 – AbleTo, Inc., a leading provider of virtual behavioral health care proven to improve clinical outcomes and lower health care costs, today announced that it has acquired Joyable, an app-based digital therapy innovator. The acquisition strengthens AbleTo’s high-quality virtual behavioral health care with a digital platform that delivers clinically-based therapies supported by coaches to help individuals overcome depression, generalized anxiety, and social anxiety.
“Joyable’s clinically-focused, digital treatment program is the perfect complement for AbleTo’s evidence-based virtual care,” said AbleTo CEO Trip Hofer. “Combining our strong programs and talented teams to create a more integrated approach to delivering behavioral health care will further expand access, drive a better experience for patients, and create more value for our clients.”
According to Mental Health America, more than 50% of people living with behavioral health needs do not get the necessary treatment. Virtual and digital therapy help solve for the critical challenges like care shortages, stigma, and cost that prevent many from accessing care. AbleTo and Joyable both help to address the problem of access through the use of technology to deliver care to individuals when and where they want. Both also employ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to ensure high quality treatment that results in their proven ability to significantly improve health.
While AbleTo provides treatment virtually through a network of more than 600 therapists and coaches, Joyable’s platform offers users expert-designed digital engagement with a coach. Their approach has been proven to drive 10 times the engagement of other digital therapies with outcomes that match face-to-face therapy.
“Joyable was founded on the idea that everyone should be able to access high-quality behavioral health care. Joining AbleTo will allow us to expand our mission with a team that shares the same goal,” said Joyable Co-founder and CEO Peter Shalek. “I am excited for Joyable to become part of a larger effort and continue to build and grow with our combined capabilities.”
“For people living with unmet behavioral health needs, the expanded reach of AbleTo through Joyable’s digital platform means millions more people will get the help they need,” added Hofer. “For AbleTo’s clients and partners, the combined capabilities and a commitment to continue innovating together means a greater impact on populations that would benefit from access to high-quality behavioral health care.”
Mr. Shalek will join the AbleTo executive team as Chief Product Officer, leading product strategy and development across the combined organizations.
