"The pandemic has further demonstrated the need for access to mental healthcare, and I am proud to be joining Ascellus at such a historic time," said Brett Cohen, Ascellus, Chief Operating Officer. "Ascellus has proven itself to be an industry leader in behavioral health with its personalized treatment options and ability to help workers recover faster. I look forward to helping develop operational strategies to push that innovation forward and provide high-quality care to as many patients as possible."
Cohen joins Ascellus during the post-pandemic workplace mental health surge with nearly two decades of healthcare experience and proven results in operations, population health programs and strategy, including several first-of-their-kind integrated care programs. He has held numerous executive and leadership roles, most recently at DaVita as a Division Vice President of Integrated Care Operations. While at DaVita, Cohen was responsible for implementing value-based clinical care programs that managed over $300M in total medical cost. In this role, he designed the operational playbook for DaVita's value-based care initiatives to serve as the foundation for future population health programs.
"Brett's proven talent to develop operational processes for integrated care practices in population health programs is critical for Ascellus' expansion as a trusted and leading behavioral health provider for injured workers," said Lori Daugherty, Ascellus, Chief Executive Officer. "Delivering new healthcare technologies to today's healthcare market takes creativity and compassion, and Brett has shown he has the experience to operationalize our transformative approach to individualized behavioral health plans that empower injured workers to return to work sooner."
Offering expanded access to high-quality, personalized mental healthcare, Ascellus brings people and technology together in the company's nationwide network of 1,500 licensed clinicians to deliver customized treatment options, reduce costs for workers' compensation claims and empower injured workers to return to work sooner.
The Ascellus platform provides treatment plans for pain management, workplace trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), COVID-19, and California Stress Claims. While around two-thirds of treatment goals - set by the employee and therapist in conjunction with the claims examiner - are reached within seven weeks of therapy, treatment continues for as long as appropriate.
