Kaltura, Inc. (www.kaltura.com), developer of the first open source video platform, announced today that it has released a new cloud-based version of the Kaltura Video Platform, available on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform in the cloud. Now any publisher - media company, enterprise, SMB, university – can initiate an Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instance of Kaltura's rich-media content management platform in less than 15 minutes, and enjoy the full range of Kaltura's online-video tools and capabilities, including advanced rich-media ingestion, transcoding, management, metadata extraction, SEO, publishing, monetization, analytics and audience measurement. Publishers can decide whether to run the free community-supported Kaltura Community Edition 3.0 on Amazon EC2, or the commercial Kaltura On-Prem™ software, which comes with a Kaltura subscription package, maintenance, support, and professional services (if required).
"A company or developer that is using Kaltura to deploy advanced video functionalities and services can do so with unparalleled flexibility and control. They can subscribe to Kaltura's SaaS or self-host the On-Premise system behind their own firewall, and now they can also run the system on their own instances within Amazon EC2," said Ron Yekutiel, Kaltura Chairman & CEO "The Amazon cloud alternative provides a high level of security and control with lesser IT complexities and spend that may be required in an On-Premise deployment."
Kaltura's pre-configured and ready-to-launch Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) require just a few simple steps to be up and running in less than 15 minutes. Users can choose from a range of deployment and sizing options – from a single 32-bit server with 1 virtual core and 1.7gig of RAM, all the way up to multiple 64-bit servers with 8 virtual cores and 68gig of RAM each, and up to 1 terabyte of Amazon's fault-tolerant Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) storage for each server. "Amazon was an easy choice when looking for the right cloud-based solution to start with - now publishers can be up and running with a full video platform in minutes" said Dr. Shay David, Kaltura VP of Business and Community Development. "With more than 100,000 sites already integrated with Kaltura's platform, and hundreds of developers in our community developing applications for our AppExchange, we look forward to many more cloud-based deployments. The cloud is the future of video, and we're excited to be leading this space."
