NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – (June 8, 2011) – The National Technical Information Service (NTIS) of the U.S. Department of Commerce and Connotate, Inc., a provider of solutions that help organizations collect data and content from the Web, today announced that they have entered into a joint venture. This partnership enables NTIS and Connotate to offer advanced, automated Web archiving tools that increase the performance and innovative distribution of federally funded science and technology information to the agency’s government and content provider clientele.
Government agencies are being overrun with data. Information overload combined with the ceaseless addition of new content makes it almost impossible for agencies to understand – both from a current and historical perspective – important trends that affect their performance and efficiency. The NTIS vision is to synthesize the massive amounts of dynamic online content generated by more than 3 million publications through a series of joint ventures, including one with Connotate for its patented, visual abstraction technology provided in the Agent Community product. As a result, NTIS will now be able to offer a new Web data and content solution to its clients that can be rapidly deployed to fulfill their data collection needs.
“Connotate’s tools complement our existing partner infrastructure for helping our clients not only navigate the sea of government-funded information but also easily access critical operational data,” said NTIS Director Bruce Borzino.
The Connotate solution boosts NTIS staff productivity because it allows employees to aid in federal agency information processing, fulfillment and distribution needs by efficiently setting structure around high-volumes of unstructured Web data. In addition, the Connotate solution provides the scalability, reliability and resiliency necessary to drive strategic value by delivering targeted dynamic Web content and data to users with no programming knowledge via an easy-to-use interface. By eliminating the manual tasks spent hunting, gathering and integrating data from disparate internal and external sources, the solution increases productivity 10 to 100 times.
“In our experiences with information management, we’ve come to the conclusion that how you collect data is just as important as what data you collect,” said Connotate’s Vice President, Sales & Services, Matt Jacobson. “Our solution eliminates tedious manual processes so that public businesses and government agencies alike can focus on insightful information that adds value and contributes to efficient operations.”
